Old Southard School heavily used

It has been a year and a half since the Howell PAL moved into their new home in the old Southard School and Sgt. Chris Hill of the Howell Police Department said it has been a time of exceeding expectations. Since moving to the one central location Hill said they have not only been able to offer previously popular programs but also added new ones that have also brought people to the once empty building. "We're doing a lot of stuff with the kids," he said. "It revolves around the community and giving the kids something to do so we don't have to chase them around." One of the biggest additions, according to Hill has been the preschool which was open to toddlers in the community at first but has recently expanded to include infants as well. …

Pine Barrens Country Club hosts event

Chris Hill said he hopes it is the first of many his group will hold. "It's another way to put the word out about PAL and it also gives a lot of people who are golfers and business owners a chance to meet our kids." Close to 30 young volunteers from Howell gave their time to help at the event, which Hill said will help fund the programming they hold all year long. Campers Get NFL Help on the Gridiron

Former RBC coach lends a hand at PAL camp

It was just a few years ago that Frank Edgerly was the head coach at Red Bank Catholic. Now Edgerly has a slightly different job title as a pro scout with the New England Patriots. Last week he came back to his roots as a volunteer with the Howell PAL football camp at Oak Glen Park. "We had our whole family here," he said of the Jersey Shore area." Since leaving RBC Edgerly has seen a lot at the professional level and was glad to share that knowledge with the young players including going with the team to the Super Bowl this year. "Everything minus the outcome was a great experience," he said. "That's what you work hard for to get a chance to play for that game. Unfortunately we came up a little short but hopefully we can fix a couple …
