Man was caught in rough seas off Seven Presidents Beach
A surfer who was in distress off the Long Branch coast has been rescued by emergency crews on Friday. The Long Branch Police, U.S. Coast Guard and State Police were dispatched to Seven Presidents Beach just before 1 p.m. after the male surfer was spotted waving for help in the water. Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck said the man was rescued by a New Jersey State Police helicopter. The U.S. Coast Guard also sent a boat from the Manasquan Inlet Station and Monmouth County Aviation units were called to scene. The surfer was reportedly 150 yards out in rough water with 8-9 foot waves. This is a breaking news story and it will be updated when more information becomes available.
Two Howell residents among those arrested
Four people have been arrested and are facing rioting charges from an incident that occured in the parking lot of the Long Branch Police Department on Saturday night. Long Branch resident Chevonne Battle, 31, and Yolanda Fitzpatrick, 36, and Bryant Moore, 23, of Howell and Terrell Battle, 27, of Waretown, were all arrested and charged with resisting arrest and rioting, according to an article on the Asbury Park Press. Yolanda Fitzpatrick, 36, of Long Branch, was also charged with rioting. Chevonne was also charged with aggravated assault for fighting with a police officer that was attempting to arrest him, according to court documents. The first young victim remains in pediatric intensive care.
A large hole collapsed on a young boy who was digging in the sand in Long Branch on Tuesday afternoon, and a fire truck responding to the scene hit a pedestrian who was holding his toddler. All three victims have been taken to area hospitals for their injuries, according to Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck. Roebuck said the 12-year-old boy was digging in the sand and that CPR was performed on him by lifeguards as soon as he was pulled out of the hole. He said the boy was rushed to Monmouth Medical Center for treatment and that police are still investigating the incident.
