UPDATE: Police, Coast Guard Save Surfer in Distress off Long Branch Coast

Man was caught in rough seas off Seven Presidents Beach

A surfer who was in distress off the Long Branch coast has been rescued by emergency crews on Friday. The Long Branch Police, U.S. Coast Guard and State Police were dispatched to Seven Presidents Beach just before 1 p.m. after the male surfer was spotted waving for help in the water. Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck said the man was rescued by a New Jersey State Police helicopter. The U.S. Coast Guard also sent a boat from the Manasquan Inlet Station and Monmouth County Aviation units were called to scene. The surfer was reportedly 150 yards out in rough water with 8-9 foot waves. This is a breaking news story and it will be updated when more information becomes available.
