Monmouth County Fair prize package for the winning video
The Monmouth County Park System is holding a Spring Video Contest with a county fair grand prize package for the family that produces the most compelling video about their favorite park, organizers said. Residents are encouraged to produce a video with friends or family in their favorite county park, showing why you love it there. Upload the video to YouTube by Friday, June 20. Park system Facebook fans will vote for the best video, between June 21-July 5, according to a release. Rite of spring coming back
The Manasquan Reservoir will once again welcome boaters, fishermen and all nature lovers back to their tranquil waters starting on March 1. The reservoir's boat ramp, located on Windeler Road, will be open through the end of November for anyone interested in taking to the water. Passes for the launch are available for $6 daily or $46 for the year. According to the county, which runs the ramp, there is only electric power permitted and New Jersey State Boating laws and Park system rules and regulations are in effect on the water. A NJ Boating Safety Card must also be presented for motorboats and boaters 16-69 are required to have a valid fishing license. For more information call 732-919-0996.

Farmingdale resident finished third in female race
It was a busy day at the Manasquan Reservoir on Sunday as 107 runners converged for a five-mile race around the property. Racers from around the Tri-State area came to Howell to run and in the end it was Angel Confesor from Brooklyn who won the men's race in 29:05.5. He was followed by Neptune's Pat Ford who ran a 30:14.1 and Dave Hallman of Wrightstown who was close behind with a time of 30:38.1. Winning the women's race was Tammy Minott of Wilmington, DE with a time of 36:10.1. Unlike the men's race Minott narrowly edged out her closest competitor in Wendy Kerr of Hawthorne who ran a 36:12.8 for a close second. The Monmouth County Parks System offers free tee times during the week.
Golf season is far from over, and the Monmouth County Parks System is reminding residents not to pack away the clubs just yet even as the weather changes. Off-peak season on county-run golf courses means free tee times, friends and family specials and free loyalty rounds on several courses throughout the county. Special discounts and free rounds are offered Monday through Friday after 11 a.m., and after 1 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Registration is for all fall programs and begins at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The Monmouth County Parks System is gearing up for another full fall season of activities and programs for all ages. Registration started on Wednesday for activities such as horseback riding for kids and guided walks through Monmouth County parks throughout the fall season.
