Trending: NJ State Police Rank No. 2 in Terms of Twitter Followers

The department has 23,618 followers

OK, so maybe it's not trending right now, but chances are, it soon will be. The New Jersey State Police ranked second among state police agencies nationally in terms of Twitter followers, according to statistics recently released by the IACP Center for Social Media. The agency has 23,618 followers, trailing only the Massachusetts State Police, which had a whopping 62,493 followers, as of April 30. The Texas Department of Public Safety (18,787), the Ohio State Highway Patrol (13,587) and the Indiana State Police (13,466) round out the top five. Update: One Motorist Dies At Scene of Route I-195 Late Morning Motor Vehicle Accident

A motor vehicle accident that occurred at approximately 10:48 a.m. Saturday has claimed the life of one person and injured another, according to Sgt. Adam Grossman, a state police spokesman. The accident occurred at milemaker 23.8. All lanes on I-195 westbound east of exit 22 - CR 638 in Jackson Township near the exit for Route 9 in Howell Township are now open, according to Jackson Township police. That westbound portion of the roadway was closed for approximately four hours during the accident investigation. The incident wreaked havoc with traffic on Route 9 in Howell Township, eyewitnesses report. No information was available as to the condition of the second motorist. I bet one of the drivers was talking on the phone when they crashed. It's a shame that selfish, self-centered people put others in danger by chatting away while driving. Some of them fool themselves into thinking that it's okay because they use a hands-free device, but as educated people know, the studies are utterly clear on the fact that it doesn't make a difference.
