Gas Company Approved For Pipe Upgrades

New Jersey Natural Gas will spend $130 million to replace old pipes

New Jersey Natural Gas on Tuesday received the blessing of the state to begin upgrading half of its aging infrastructure, the company said in a release. NJNG, based on Wyckoff Road, was approved by the state Board of Public Utilities to begin a four-year project that will upgrade 276 miles — about 50 percent — of aging gas pipes, some of which are up to 50 years old, the release says. The $130 million project — called the Safety Acceleration and Facility Enhancement (SAFE) program — seeks to replace the old cast iron and unprotected steel mains in NJNG’s system. The company estimates that about 95 percent of the leaks in its 7,000-mile system can be attributed to the aging pipes, which were the most commonly used in the industry prior to …

New Jersey Natural Gas Gets Approval To Build Refueling Stations

Utility company to build up to seven CNG stations in Monmouth, Ocean and Middlesex counties

Wall-based New Jersey Natural Gas on Thursday received approval from the state to begin building natural gas refueling stations across the state in a $10 million pilot program to stimulate the use of natural gas-powered vehicles. The company wants to build from five to seven refueling stations in its service area over the next year, according to a company release. Compressed natural gas can reduce fuel costs between 30 and 50 percent over petroleum and can produce up to 30 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than diesel, the release says. One of the major obstacles to the increased use of natural gas-powered vehicles has been a lack of refueling infrastructure. NJNG Giving Away $60,000 For Its Diamond Anniversary

Local utility celebrates 60 years, giving away $1,000 grants to nonprofits

In celebration of its 60th anniversary, a local natural gas utility is offering a $60,000 community grant program to be awarded to 60 nonprofit organizations in its coverage area, according to a release. New Jersey Natural Gas, based on Wyckoff Road in Wall, is offering 60 nonprofits $1,000, one-time grants in celebration of its diamond anniversary, the release says. The grant money comes with no strings, the release says, letting the winning organizations allocate the money where it is needed most. “Throughout our history, corporate citizenship has been a cornerstone of our approach to business,” Laurence M.
