Local Schools to Hold Safety Discussions

Three schools have meetings this week

Parents of Newbury, Griebling and Ardena students are invited by their schools to discuss safety measures being taken in their respective buildings at meetings being held this week.  The Griebling School will hold its meeting Monday at 6:15 in the Media Center and will include Principal Nancy Rupp and a member of the local police department. The Griebling PTA is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. For the Newbury School, the meeting is scheduled for Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in the Media Center before their monthly PTA meeting. This will be the second such meeting Principal Jim Quinn has held in his building and will once again include a member of the Howell Police Department.  The Ardena Meeting is also scheduled to meet on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in …

Newbury School Holds Successful Safety Meeting

Parents informed of school safety procedures

On Wednesday afternoon 20 parents from the Newbury School community came together to discuss their children's safety with members of the administration and the Howell Police Department. Principal Jim Quinn said following the recent shooting in Newtown, CT he felt it was important to reassure the parents about the school's safety procedures. "I had gotten emails wondering about security," he said. "I've never gone over it in detail so I figured it was a good idea to put a little meeting together." Quinn said he was glad to be able to help them "have their minds at ease" following what ended up being a two hour meeting. "We had a nice conversation about security in the building," he said. "It gave them an opportunity to ask some questions." …

Newbury School to Host Special Event Wednesday

Part of a series of parent classes

As part of its community outreach efforts the Howell Township Department of Pupil Services will be presenting a series of classes designed for parents throughout the year.  The series is designed for parents of children with autism, PDD-NOS, and similar disabilities. On Wednesday morning at 9:30 a class entitled The Function of Behaviors will be held at Newbury School. An announcement from the school said the focuses of the class will be: Jim Quinn, the principal at Newbury School, said one of the people who leads the class is Maureen Rubin a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. She is also a teacher coach for Autism and Preschool Disabled programs at the school and others across the district.
