Trial Underway for Suspects in Killing of Former Howell Resident

It has been more than four months since Maj. George Anikow was killed in the suburbs of Manila, Philippines. A State Department Official said the people believed to be responsible for Anikow's death are currently on trial on the island nation.  Anikow, 41 at the time of his death, was living overseas while his wife was an employee at the American Embassy in the Philippines. "We appreciate the efforts of the Philippine authorities in conducting a thorough and speedy investigation of this crime, promptly arresting and prosecuting the suspects, and in cooperating with us throughout the process," the official said.  A member of the Howell High School class of 1989 Anikow was no stranger to being overseas as he served in the Marines with duty …

Former Howell Resident, Marine Killed in Philippines

George Anikow was the husband of an employee at the American Embassy. His funeral set for Monday.

Maj. George Anikow, a member of Howell High School's Class of 1989 was killed in the Phillipines, according a State Department zpokesman.  Anikow, 41, whose wife Laura is an employee at the American Embassy in the Phillipines, received a bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1993 before joining the Marines that year and advancing to the rank of major.  According to his obituary, Anikow was serving as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee. He had previously served in Hawaii as well as a nine-month active duty tour in Afghanistan. Eagle Oaks Finds a Special Way to Say Thank You

Club pays tribute to members of armed forces with Honor Day

It was a beautiful spring day at Eagle Oaks Golf and Country Club in Farmingdale on Thursday. In addition to the clear blue skies and the rich green of the course there was also lots of awe inspiring red white and blue to be seen as well. For the third year in a row, the club held its annual Honor Day celebration where service members from the Navy and Marines are given the opportunity to come play a round of golf and take part in a moving banquet at night as well.  John Beurskens, who serves as the assistant general manager and membership director for the club said the day was first formulated four years ago as special activity to coincide with Fleet Week in New York.
