Long Branch- The city has been working hard over the last few weeks to open as many access points as possible after Hurricane Sandy destroyed them and the city's boardwalk south of Pier Village. The boardwalk will not be repaired this summer, but could be rebuilt in time for the 2014 summer season, officials have said. The city's beaches are open on weekends starting Memorial Day up until the third weekend in June, when they will be open daily. The beach season closes on Labor Day. Wall- The former assistant superintendent of Wall Township Schools was indicted Monday morning on charges she failed to immediately report a possible sexual assault of a 4-year-old special needs student by a teacher and then lied to police and tried to cover up her inaction, according to the indictment. Brick- A jury has found Brick resident Anthony DiGilio not guilty of vehicular homicide and assault by vessel in connection with a fatal Aug. 3, 2008 boating accident. The 1 a.m. accident rocked the Jersey Shore boating community and a subsequent investigation led to charges being brought against DiGilio, who was at the helm of a 27-foot Imperial performance boat when the accident occurred in the area where the Metedeconk River converges with Barnegat Bay in Brick. Toms River- With the help of his father, Eric Katz spent over three years renovating the house that allowed him to live how he wanted. The 30 year-old paraplegic has been in a wheelchair since age 15, but that never stopped him from living an active and independent life. Then Superstorm Sandy struck. Howell resident files to run for re-election
Sheriff Shaun Golden filed paperwork to run for a full term as Monmouth County Sheriff. Golden was originally named to the position when then Sheriff Kim Guadagno left to become Lt. Governor in Gov. Chris Christie's administration. Ahead of June's primary three candidates have filed to run for the county-wide position. Along with Golden, Ruben M. Scolavino of Freehold is running on the Democratic ticket while Daniel Peters of Lincroft is running on the Republicans for Conservative Leadership ticket. Two seats on the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders will also be up for grabs. Democrat Brian Froelich of Spring Lake, who ran against Rep. Brick- The fire that destroyed the Camp Osborn neighborhood during Superstorm Sandy was captured in an up-close video and uploaded to YouTube by way of a Mexican news site Oct. 31, 2012, but the video has only recently surfaced locally. Board will hold meeting at new building
The new Municipal Building will be the site of the second meeting of April for the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders. Set for April 25 at 7 p.m. the meeting will be the first by the county body in Howell since the township relocated from Preventorium Road to Route 9. It is one of a series of meetings the Freeholders will hold away from their regular Freehold location. Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone said he was glad the board was meeting in new locations. "The Board of Chosen Freeholders takes its meetings on the road to make county government more accessible to the people it serves," he said. "It encourages participation by many more residents."
