Brick Township — Patrick Doyle, the man who fatally struck and killed a Brick teenager on a skateboard in 2011, will spend the next six months in jail and lose his license for 10 years, a judge ruled Thursday night. Doyle, 55, pleaded guilty to a single count of driving while intoxicated in front of Municipal Court Judge Daniel Sahin in Brick Township municipal court. It is his third DWI conviction. Food Assistance Benefits Offered for Sandy Victims

Multiple locations now open to apply for Disaster SNAP aid

Those temporarily facing hunger because superstorm Sandy exhausted their resources can apply for an assistance program beginning Monday. Benefits for those not already enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will continue through Dec. 4. Disaster SNAP is available to those who are at risk of hunger because disaster recovery expenses has left them without enough money to buy food or those who were without power and lost food supplies. Monmouth County merchants are encouraged to join a teleconference call today to discuss support services and available opportunities as they recover from Hurricane Sandy. Call 559-726-1300 and input access code 147878 to take part in the 4 p.m. hour-long Business Rebuilding Call sponsored by Monmouth's Division of Economic Development. County officials promise information will be provided about state and federal disaster relief programs, tax impact and more. Sandy County-Run Distribution Sites Close 5 p.m. Sunday

Donations still accepted at Thompson Park in Lincroft

Monmouth County government's two remaining supply distribution sites will close at 5 p.m. today. Holy Family Church in Hazlet and Monmouth Park in Oceanport will discontinue operations while the county's third distribution site, Circle Factory Outlets in Wall, was shut down Friday. "The distribution sites have served our residents well over the past 11 days,” Sheriff Shaun Golden said. “We thank our partners and the volunteers who helped our residents through some difficult days.” However, donations are still being accepted at Thompson Park (805 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and will be distributed directly to municipalities and nonprofit organizations.
